FPS Team Game Choices:
Savage 2
Quake Wars
Counter Strike
Team Fortress 2

Please inform anyone who does not regularly visit the forums to vote.
Polls will close October 15th!

The polls are purposely put up with games that can be played on multiple consoles. Which system will depend on how many of each system show during the lan or an executive decision on my part.

Remember people: You can play savage 2 on a lan for free so no need to buy the game to participate.

Savage 2? Really? Doesn't look much like a first person shooter to me.

If we can we will play Source but that depends on how many people own the game and are willing to let others possibly play on theirs. Otherwise it will be the non steam version I think 1.5 or earlier.

Nassif:
Savage 2 is actual a mix with one commander and the rest of the players are fps/3rd.

i'll be bringing at least 3 people if counter-strike wins.........so honestly 4 is greater than one.

counter-strike is the best fps team game out there. its made purely for the competition.......if you want eye candy go play something else.

Because the Battlefield series, Quake Wars, and the Team Fortress games don't exist, right?

What game is better or not is an opinion. I prefer to play current games, I got all the fill I needed of Counter Strike when it was in alpha during my college days 10 years ago. When the club was founded it was about trying to get gamers together to play different games together, not stick with one game. If we wanted that we would have been called the Big Red Racing Clan.

My comment wasn't a threat, it was a fact. Nor was it an attempt to get the game changed, I would find that unfair. (but I am going to recommend they not put 10 year old games on the vote list next time) My comment was letting the gamers know I won't be comming partly because I don't like the environment created by a horde of people who only play one game that is ancient(yes that is me being prejudice). Nothing more. Take it personally if you wish but it was not meant as such. Have a nice day.

Message to other gamers who might take this as me grand standing. I'm not trying to grand stand, I had other reasons I might not have come, this game just tipped the scales against it.

Those decision are usually made the week of the LAN. So, I don't know but I'm guessing the answer is Not yet.

As far as I'm concerned if it's about competing in a game then you play something many people have experience in or are familiar with. You don't just pull out new releases to compete in, otherwise people would yank out one of the trillion random ass Japanese FPS's that no one has heard of.

That's why people have used Halo, BF 42/Nam/BF2, Tribes 1/2, Quake III TA and stuff more than Fear / Crysis. It also partially has to do with the refinement and debugging that comes with the age of a game. I'm sure if you're an alpha then you remember transition from 1.5 to 1.6, and even 1.6 to source.

Play something familiar.
Play something refined.

IMO.

BTW, CS:S last I had looked it up on Steam still had more active players than TF2. I like TF2, but rank/unlock based FPS's are not as focused on skill as it is playtime.

TFC was actually more popular than CS until Sept. 11, 2001. Suddenly, killing terrorists gained a lot of appeal. But for the record, TF was a Quake mod and is still played today. People sometimes don't play certain FPSs because of gameplay issues in multiplayer, such as FEAR's ability to slow time or Doom 3's max of 4 players in a server.

And I say TFC is a better game than CS any day of the week, but I'm not playing in this competition anyway, so why are you getting so defensive?

Ack you fool - Doom 3's multiplayer was expanded to 8 with the expansion.

Come on Powerslave...actually who coming can run System Shock 2? I am interested in coop. Yes it is an old game but most 8series+ cards cannot run it.

8 still isn't enough for a good game in my opinion.

Did you ever get that mass quick install trick for System Shock to work?

That has been the great debate for years in the club. Where on the spectrum are we (the club) trying to play, classic-modern-newest. I've always been a proponent that the modern portion of the spectrum is where tournaments belong. Not directly tied to popularity. Classics and Newest belong in the free play/special event categories. I think CS falls into the classic realm and thus should be relegated to outside the club sponsored event not a TigerLAN central event. It is certainly popular enough to spawn its own event without the club pushing it as a tournament.

Mostly I am concerned with the environment created at the LAN by a game with fans as fanatical as CS. Usually there are 20-30 PCs at the LAN and if 15 or more of them are playing CS odds are they will not play anything else for the duration. Thus ruining the freeplay potential of the LAN for other games. When I attend TigerLAN I try to introduce/train people on games I play, and in turn agree to try theirs out. I find fanatical fan based games like Starcraft and CS tend to completely eliminate that environment.

I agree with you on the environment created by CS fans but I think CS:S still falls into the modern realm. CS 1.6 does not, but I'm still a proponent of it. Although I wouldn't expect such a fanatical group based on what I've seen the LAN games on Friday. Our team is not such a group, only the same level of trash talk as any other gamer.

Question: is team based FPS a team of 5 for CS/CS:S? For other fps's?

I'm also very (VERY) VERY down for UT04 myself, but I would also do Quake IV. Either would make me happy.
