FPS Team Choices:
Natural Selection
Counter Strike
Battlefield
Team Fortress 2
Call of Duty 4/5
Please inform anyone who does not regularly visit the forums to vote.
Polls will close March 24th!
The polls are purposely put up with games that can be played on multiple consoles and therefore versions. Which system/version will depend on how many of each system/version show during the lan or an executive decision on my part. This means, if you have a preferred version, bring it and have any updates ready for the exclusive use during the tournament. |

Just before they put in the buy weapons interface. You all have to manually buy weapons just like we did back in the day. Muawhwhahahahahahaha! |

Personally, I'd say that if we don't get at least 20 votes for CS then we switch to something else. Playing 3 teams in a CS competition is mostly pointless and has generally ended up with two actual teams and one ad hoc team. This generally means it was one real match that you might as well have stayed home to play. The winners feel no sense of accomplishment and the losers had no chance. Then we have to dole out 15 prizes (whether good or not) for 3 hours of annoying game play.
And I'd think it would be CS:Source. Fair warning though, you may not have an Internet connection so be prepared for that. |

last time we only had 2 teams, and i'm pretty sure everyone who played had fun. the teams were pretty equal and it came down to a few points.
if you look at the steam statistics for augaming, css has the most hours and i know its not from just one or two players. i think the biggest problem is that people don't know about the lan.
we didn't have a problem last time with the internet connection so i don't see why we would this time around.
and regarding the prizes (this isn't just for the the team fps but for everything else)....i think cash is the way to go. first off, you don't have to go out and spend money on prizes people don't like no one is going to turn down cash. plus the club could take a certain percentage and leave the rest as prize money for winning teams/players. |

| I don't think we are allowed to use cash. It's either a legal issue or a university issue or something. |

| There is a way to do it in Alabama, someone just needs to lookup the rules. I think it's basically that the money payout can not be based entirely on luck and/or comes only from the money put into the pool. But don't quote me on that. Now, what the rules are for the university, I'm not sure. I think you can give a fixed amount upfront and take your chances on breaking even, that's essentially the same as buying prizes. |

I had internet problems, but no problem getting onto steam.
Just boot up steam from home, put into offline mode, then take to the LAN.
I think your 20 minimum rule for CS:S is biased.
The 10 that participated in the last CS:S game had fun.
It comprised of two teams and that was all we really needed.
An even number of additional teams would be better.
Like Sabliminel commented though, it was very close and we all had fun.
Let the polls be proof that CS:S is desired as the FPS Team game.
Democracy in this is pointless if you ignore the people.
I agree too thought that TigerLAN does not have a very good marketing plan to increase both players/revenue.
Also agree on the cash prizes vs. game cards. If we were to have played both days, paying both entry fees, we would of come out in the negative for winning...
We only broke even for winning.
The truth is, Counter-Strike has a long and expansive following and dedicated community. If you want your LAN events to thrive you can't ignore a key demographic. At least make the prizes worth while and don't drop it because you personally dislike it. We didn't complain about your SSB tourny.

The winners each got $20 cards I think. It was $20 max total for both days plus competitions. It's $5/day to game then a single flat $10 fee for competition. Your $5 breaks you even on snacks per day generally. You came out $10 ahead actually, unless you didn't eat any of the snacks. If you didn't play the second day then you should have only paid $15, but you have to be up front about whether you're playing both days. (Eating $5 in snacks a day is obviously debatable considering the snacks. Used to always even out when drinks were free.)
I never said my 20 person rule for CS wasn't biased, though I feel the bias is utilitarian. I like CS -- have since Beta 3. But if I wanted to play a single competition round of CS against another random team then I'd just stay home and play on a ladder instead of lugging all my gear to a LAN to do it. That is, provided all I did was play CS all day instead of participating in other games like the event wants me to do.
I'm not saying that you can't have fun playing one round of CS, but I don't think spending the time to organize and execute and the money for 10-15 good prizes is worth the effort when we could spend less of both and yet get more people to play.
20 people, 5 person teams, 4 teams, 2 games for each team and a proper 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Winners of first round move to second to fight for 1st and 2nd. Losers of first found move to second to fight for 3rd place.
I'm also up for changing up the rules in CS so that you only get half the rounds to play than what we normally give, otherwise the same ruleset though. I appreciate the comeback ability and changing dynamic of more rounds, but it makes the CS tourney 3 hours for two rounds when all the other competitions are only 1 hour long. Then everyone is exhausted at the end of it and goes home to not come back the next day.
CS currently has 5 votes. That is one team. If we don't get at least 10 votes then having the tournament as CS is pointless. Same for NS and Battlefield. CoD and TF2 can make due with 3 person teams.
I guess what I'm really saying is: GET MORE PEOPLE TO VOTE! |

Keep in mind that a lot of people really don't know about the lan tourny or this vote. I honestly wish I could say I knew everyone at Auburn who played css or any other game, but I don't.
Also, we don't have to do the usual 5 v 5. We could do 3 v 3, 2 v 2, or 1 v 1. |

A 3v3 game is very different than 5v5 as it has NOTHING to do with teamwork, and anything less is not CS imo.
I know that few people know about it, that's the problem. Tell your friends, have them tell their friends, put up fliers, go to other clubs, let the frats know, visit other LAN parties, tell your forums, tell your clans, etc. Spread the word. |

how about sending out an email ??
seriously, UPC sends out a million ones. I hate those emails so much if I got an email about a LAN event it would be awesome. |

I don't know why they haven't had the SGA/UPC send out an email. The service does exist for clubs. Though, I personally tried it 3-4 times in the past and they never sent out our advertisement. It was just ignored.
Someone is supposed to be in charge of getting the word out, but I don't know who it is. The forums have been devoid of official chatter on this and I'm not privy to the weekly conversations anymore. I'm just that annoying guy that preaches what to do, but never managed to do all of it himself. |

Sweet, 5 votes, enough for one team. Hopefully more people show up for it than voted. On the upside, maybe at least the 14 that voted will want to play. I'm up for it. |
