Agreed.
I think if it was just FFA Midship, maybe Lockout, and then either MLG rules or just normal Slayer.
From how many there were last time, there would have been like 3 and a half teams of 4v4, so that wouldn't have been too fun, nor competitive. |

Sorry, if any of you happened to read anything else on the forums besides this single thread, you might have picked up that they would be the same as last time we had a Halo 2 tournament...
Game: Halo 2
Version: X-Box
Rule Options:
Out-of-the-box Slayer
<= 8 - All entrants deathmatch, top 3 win
<= 8 - 1v1 double-elimination
>= 8 - 4 person single-elimination feeder, top 2 continue
>= 16 - 8 person single-elimination feeder, top 4 continue
Them's the brakes. Now quit whining. |

I thought it was supposed to be halo 2's equivalent to "Slayer Pro" which would be BR start, not SMG. that's how all the leagues and ladders and tournaments run it anyway. |

Ok, trsruiner, you seem to know a lot more about this than I do. How about you run this tournament? You're not allowed to play in it, but you can have whatever rules you want, and since you're obviously so knowledgeable about the subject, I think it's only fitting you run it. If you don't want to run it, then I suggest you stop worrying about it and enjoy the game, as that's what you're supposed to be doing with a video game anyway...having fun with it. We'll run things our way. It may or may not be the way everyone else runs it.
Chinatown, we usually don't do any teams. The team FPS tournament began TigerLAN 10, and it's only been for PC so far. We tend to think of console games as deathmatch only. While I don't think we will do it here, it is an interesting idea, and if you'd like to show up at a club meeting one of these Fridays, I think it would make an interesting discussion for TigerLAN 13. |

I think trsruiner is just making some suggestions of how most people are used to playing online, and at LAN's these days. No need to bash him. I mean, I'm gonna come play either way you do it, but it's just that alot of people are used to BR starts, and no duals, and all that jazz, but it's still up to you. He's just stating, that when you play on XBL these days, more than half the games you play are now BR starts, instead of SMG's because Bungie themsleves had made it that way.
They are just suggestions, no need to to go crazy about it...
And besides, if it was looked into, it'd take one simple gametype change, that could be done in a heartbeat, and then use that gametype the whole time, so it wouldn't be that hard, but whatever is used, people are still gonna come play. |

you're an asshole. sorry about suggestions. I will not make another one.
you will run it your way, it's just funny that the settings for other events are based on CAL or CPL or some sort of gaming community.
you're simply annoyed because you don't even want to have this game as a tournament. I thought this was the forum i should voice my opinion in.
I guess it's my fault if you think I'm a "console noob" and everyone in this club hates Halo.
but please, don't take it out on me. I was just saying the last time i went to the halo 1 and then the next time the halo 2 tournaments at tigerlan, that's how it was.
again I apologize, and wont be back. |

Of course Ack is an asshole.
Oh and, consoles == deathmatch. Period. Any other way and it just ruins the whole console feel. It's not a console anymore.... |

This has been a sore spot each TigerLAN since Ack became president.
Either the polls were held too early, he was going to lose *insert imaginary number* of possible attendants (Which did not occur in the least), it is was perfectly okay to break the law and get the club disbanded, the tournament rules aren't to *my* specifications, or a small child in Luxembourg was going to die of cancer because Halo was not voted in as a tournament.
He'll calm down...
But, ts is right about one thing, he is an asshole. |

...NO SWEARING ON MY FORUMS...
...but on a sadder note, don't leave trsruiner, you don't have to run the competition. But Scorp is right, ever since I became involved in TigerLAN, I've always noticed that people argued and whined about the rules of tournaments, and the majority of this whining has always been about the Halo tournament. Frankly, after seeing it for a few years, I've gotten tired of it. I apologize for taking it out on you, and I will tell you not to worry, if you don't want to participate in this TigerLAN, I won't be running the next one. I graduate soon and it's time to let the next generation start taking care of things.
I would also like to point out that you have been one of the people who I could always count on to complain. I don't know you, I don't know what you look like, your sole purpose on this message board seemed to be to complain to a computer club about the way the Halo tournament was set up. You've been on this message board for as long as I've been in the club, yet I don't remember ever seeing you attend, or actually discuss anything besides this tournament.
For other points of interest, if you check the old posts, those were the same rules for the last Halo 2 tournament, posted down to the letter. As I suggested earlier, read other sections of our forums. There likely won't be another Halo or Halo 2 tournament, as this is the last time Xbox will ever be a console tournament in TigerLAN. Besides, Halo 3 will be out on Xbox 360, so that will probably be what's played for TigerLAN 13.
Also, just so you know, I would be considered a "console n00b" too. And yes, I am an asshole.
So, that's my being realistic. If you want to quit coming to TigerLAN, I'm sorry to see you go. If you do want to still attend, we'll be happy to have you. And we'll discuss your rules change in person if you're really serious about it. I look forward to it. |

So..........
As reigning Halo Champion (I don't think it was played at TL11), I want to know, is it Guilty Gear or Halo 2 for sure. I mean, it's 3 days away, I want to know whether I am going to come or not...
Plus, as *cough reigning halo champion cough* I personally hate the outta the box slayer rules, but will play them if that's what they are. Being a part of CAL/MLG for long while now has menot playing those rules, but I'll play whatever, (as long as Halo is the game and not Guilty Gear). |

well considering that it is our tournament, im pretty sure we could set the rules to anything we like. last i checked AUCGC wasnt in the CAL/CPL or that "sort of gaming community."
if you dont like it, dont come. simple as that. or if it is a big enough grief how about show up to the damn meetings we have ABOUT TIGERLAN... oh thats right we post when those are going to be... or if you have suggestions please feel free to call me, i dont care. If you would like to chat about this send me a pm asking my number.
if quitting coming is youre way of sticking it to us, well you gonna have to try harder than that, we do operate on a college campus. do you realize how many frat boys play fscking halo and halo 2?
*sigh* feeble attempt.
and ack isnt an asshole, hes a [one of the seven dirty words you can't say on television]bag.

I disagree the rules have been posted for two weeks now in the TigerLAN schedule thread ( i know it is not in the right place but, they were posted)
If there is a problem with peoples reading skills, then dont blame the club.

THE FINAL WORD(s):
Halo 2 is the official Xbox competition.
The rules are the same ones that were posted as a result of the April 7 TigerLAN meeting, which I have pasted here:
4:00 P.M. on Saturday- Halo 2
Version: X-Box
Rules:
Out-of-the-box Slayer
<= 8 - All entrants deathmatch, top 3 win
<= 8 - 1v1 double-elimination
> 8 person single-elimination feeder, top 2 continue
>= 16 person single-elimination feeder, top 4 continue
The two <8 rules are not a typo -- in the event that less than (or exactly) 8 people compete in this competition, the majority vote will choose the ruleset based on those two options.
Prizes ABSOLUTELY include Halo 2 t-shirts.
Because we are involved in promoting the Halo 2 PC release, some prizes MAY involve that.
If I was unclear on any point please ask questions.
On a (somewhat) unrelated note, I will be bringing a TV, a PS2 with controllers and copies of Guilty Gear X and XX (or X2 as it is known stateside). If you would like me to run an organized competitive event of the game, talk to me. |
