I almost want to go to TL now and just wait by the door to watch the Halo kiddies screech. I don't even have to pay: I could just lounge out in the lobby.

Why are there such aversions to people who play halo. I understand that in order to run a good club there has to be rules. But I guess I just think there shouldn't be as much guff. "You didnt vote for it and that is why next time vote and we can have it" that really is all that I see that needs to be said. Like I said just my two cents.

There are a few games that always seem to end up at TigerLAN, titles like the HALO series, Gears of War, and Counter-Strike. The reason these usually end up being played is because of the vast amount of hatemail the club receives whenever one of these games is not featured, and because these are the games that actually generate turnout and revenue from these tournaments.

Though our club encourages people to go out and play all different kinds of games, no matter what genre, and even though we are a computer gaming club that features tournaments in console titles so that we can give PC gamers a chance to try console games, and vice versa, we realize that there are some people out there who call themselves gamers but only stick to the most popular titles at any given time. These people may still have a wealth of games under their belts, but these are games that almost everyone has played, titles like DDR, Tekken, HALO, WoW, and Starcraft. And when we don't feature those games, these people are the first and the loudest to complain.

Over the years, many club members have become bitter and spiteful towards these titles and those that play them, regardless of the merits and faults of the titles themselves. Often times, we simply begin to focus on the faults of these titles and their rabid fanbases. And yes, their fans are rabid. How often on messageboards do you see reviewers flamed when someone gives HALO a less-than-perfect score, or when someone mentions that the series isn't really all that innovative? How nasty does the Starcraft community get when someone says the game is basically a rip-off of Warhammer 40,000? How enraged do WoW players get when you tell them you really don't care about their level 70 Nightelf Rogue?

In short, we are venting our frustration with our fellow gamers who don't necessarily see things the way we do. Are we just as bad? Maybe. Perhaps our skin isn't as thick as it should be towards their antics. Yet, perhaps our skin shouldn't have to be so thick.

Ack's right, we always get complains when one of the majors doesn't get voted in. But our response is exactly what you said, basically "well vote next time". We're just preparing ourselves for the flaming that history says will start soon by joking around about it. But maybe we won't get it this time, which would be cool.

Oh, and never take anything kurtmax says seriously. Wink

QFT. I'm not even a member of AUCGC Razz

I don't think the Halo series is a bad game at all. There are much, much worse games out there. At the same time it's not all that great either. The simple fact is: I have more fun games to play than Halo.

Plus playing a FPS with a game controller is like trying to play basketball as Stephen Hawking (Except you don't have a kick-ass power chair and a creepy robotic voice) So actually... Stephen Hawking wins.

lol

Agreed on the FPS+Controller. It sucks. It was surprisingly easy to pick up and learn compared to others I've played, but it's still not the same as a keyboard+mouse.

I like Halo, but it's not really that innovative, it's really just Half-Life for the console people. It was groundbreaking for the console so people have latched on, just like we did for Half-Life on the PC. There are better things, but it's hard to let your baby die.

FPS+controller works for Metroid Prime. But of course the staff knew what they were doing.
