Hardware - The Atom 330 and ION fastbilly1 - Aug 11, 2009 - 12:20 AM Post subject: The Atom 330 and ION
So the way I see this, is that it is a 1.6ghz dual core, up to 4 gigs of ram, and a Geforce 9400m, that with a harddrive pulls down around 60 watts at full load. So a lowend gaming pc. Atleast it is good enough to play BF 2142, UT3, CoD 4, and L4D - ofcourse with different levels of good (UT3/CoD 4 will have to be 640x480 and low to get 30 fps).
Has anyone played with an Ion setup yet? I want some real world stress test that are not video. Right now I am eying the standard Atom 330 with the GMA 950 (since I can build those for $210). Upgrading to the Ion means $250 + whatever itll cost for me to build suitable cases. My goal is to eventually have sets of low impact computers I can bring to lanparties/have setup at my house, that have all the games already installed and ready to go. xero, xen, and Ack have all had their ears talked off about this so I figured I would throw it up there for those I dont talk to often.
And before yall get on me about the POS specs, the whole goal is low power but still able to play the games we normally play. I mean I still have a more up to date pc, these would just be extras - until I switch over...vandyl - Nov 22, 2009 - 10:24 PM Post subject: RE: The Atom 330 and ION
I took a look at the link you posted, and I'm honestly pretty impressed with the hardware. No, it's not a top-end gaming rig, but it'll have no problems running a lot of the games we've played over the years.
Of course, I don't expect anyone to want to run Crysis on this setup haha (although that would be pretty amusing)
I haven't heard much about the atom/ion setup, but the hardware specs speak for themselves. I like it, for what it is.Bandit - Nov 24, 2009 - 02:06 AM Post subject: RE: The Atom 330 and ION
What is awe? Realization that what you see before you is a computer mounted inside a GameCube chassis , running Crysis.
I challenge you to bring us awe.PhukFace - Nov 24, 2009 - 06:28 PM Post subject: RE: The Atom 330 and ION
awe should be coming in a few days....
*hint, should be clocking my rig to aboput 4.6 ghz...*vandyl - Nov 24, 2009 - 10:57 PM Post subject: RE: The Atom 330 and ION

Still havent found a case that I can mount them in properly.fastbilly1 - Jan 07, 2010 - 09:24 PM Post subject: RE: Re: RE: The Atom 330 and ION
And Bandit I may take you on that challenge. I am just waiting till the end of the month before I commit. Rumor is there may be a better C7 processor announced then. Ive not found an ion setup small enough to fit in the Gamecube yet.Bandit - Jan 11, 2010 - 03:30 AM Post subject: RE: Re: RE: The Atom 330 and ION
I await the Awe. Bring it unto us.PhukFace - Jan 11, 2010 - 06:50 PM Post subject: RE: Re: RE: The Atom 330 and ION

Well its been done:

Via's new chipset with a PCI express slot runs Crysis. Using a short 8600, like in the video, you could fit it in a Gamecube.
Back to my original idea it is.PhukFace - Jan 15, 2010 - 08:06 PM Post subject:
two words:
toastervandyl - Jan 17, 2010 - 06:37 AM Post subject:
crysis on a system mounted in a toaster? I bet the toaster would still work too fastbilly1 - Jan 27, 2010 - 06:57 PM Post subject:
If I build anything into a toaster itll be a hotswappable raid. Ive seen it done more than once. And yes the harddrives ride on modified toast runners.
I actually was given a project box today - alittle 4x6 inch mobo with embedded everything but ram and storage (Compact Flash). Itll probably endup in the Mamecab, since it is too big for the gamecube...vandyl - Jan 30, 2010 - 09:47 PM Post subject:
I'm really looking forward to this. Just put together a moderate gaming rig for my wife. (I say moderate because it's using a Pentium D 805 and 8800GT vs Core I* and GTX***/59**)
