hey guys, me, my roommate and some friends of ours are looking at coming to TigerLAN, and we have a few questions regarding this tournament
1) We understand there's a charge of $15 to compete in tournaments. If we win certain tournaments, do we get money back, do we get prizes, or are we paying $15 just to play and we won't get any kind of prize in return?
2) If Counterstrike gets picked to be the game for the FPS Team, how many players are allowed to be on a team? Also, what maps would be used?
3) For the Starcraft tournament, will the format be 1 vs 1, Free For All, or teams? Also, what types of maps will we use? Official Blizzard maps and ladder maps, or will there be "money maps"?
4) Also, any chance we can get a sports game tournament for consoles? Like NCAA 09 or something?
any help on these questions would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys |

1) there are prizes, if you win you get a prize and i believe there are door prizes as well(someone please correct that if its wrong), money from tigerlan helps support the club and the next tigerlan.
2) rules for the competitions are yet to be deteremined. (die get on it)
3) see above comment
4) oooh a ncaa09 fan... competitions are pretty much set i think, although you can always bug the crap out of DIE, thats what i do. |

Pricing:
$5/day to game
$10 extra to do competitions (covers both days, no discount for only 1 day)
If you're a dues paying club member ($10/semester) then you don't have to pay to game, just to compete.
We can't award the money back, but we do award prizes, you'll generally get more than $10 worth or prizes if you win. That's always the case with 1st place, almost always with 2nd place, and generally with 3rd. Usually, even 3rd place prize sets are worth around $15, just depends on how the last TigerLAN went and what we've gotten from sponsors. Plus you get free snacks and cheap/free drinks.
There are usually random door prizes drawings, just depends on the semester's take of loot.
The money goes back into the Gaming Club (meets every Friday in Haley, PCs & games provided). Most of the money goes back into the next TigerLAN for prizes, food, equipment, advertising, fees, etc.
Just to clarify, DIE is the current club President and TigerLAN Coordinator. |

r3dnek:
Pricing was stated correctly by both face & xero.
Rules are posted after polls are closed but in general it will be
<= 8 -1 v 1
> 8 - 2v2 till 4 lift then 1 v 1
The maps will be what I find from the official tournament leagues or from Lucer. If there is an overwhelming/u desire for a certain map it will be added.
We will not add another tournament but you are welcome to do one of your own.

Why would you play Counterstrike 1 on 1? |

I'm betting on/hoping for recent KESPA (Korean eSports Association) tournament maps like Othello and Andromeda ("low money") for the Starcraft tournament (check iccup.net). Money maps and blizzard and blizzard ladder maps are nowhere even remotely close to balanced positionally or in various matchups. They tend to highly unbalance various matchups (ex. dropship terran is brokenly strong on 95% of blizzard maps).
I'll bug lucre to talk to DIE about it... |
