Hopefully Sega wont screw us out of LAN play like all other major shooters are. Oddly AvP Gold on Steam also doesnt have multiplayer |

My mistake, AvP Gold 2000 has been patched to run barebones multiplayer, widescreen support, and a host of other features. $5 well spent.
Though I wont give up my AvP Gold discs anytime soon. Ill thinstall it for lan play as soon as I get another disc 2 - mine has a scratch and wont validate. |

I'm tired of trying to find the right set of patches for AvP Gold. Should we convert to the steam version? |

Didn't notice it was by the original developer. Maybe it will be good. Got it in my GameFly list for PS3 as my PC is gettin a bit grey. |

I've heard good things about the new AvP actually. I'd pick it up but I don't need to spend the cash :/ |

So far it's pretty average. Lots of moments at the start of the marine campaign that are supposed to be scary but end up looking pretty cheesy. (While a playthrough of AvP1 a couple weeks ago still scared the hell out of me)
Haven't played much multiplayer as apparently no one plays the PS3 version. A few minutes searching for a game found 2 other people and going 1v1v1, in which a predator completely dominates. Will try again this weekend, maybe there will be more people, but I'm not too hopeful. |

For the original, the club discovered the ratio was about 12:4:1 for Aliens, Soldiers, Predator. But it only worked if the soldiers bunched up and worked together. Now on maps that were more open with no ceilings to crawl on, demanded even more aliens to balance it. So it was played at a number of lans and meetings, but it fell down when population in the game dropped below 12 or so players, and utterly collapsed when extra predators showed up. |

Must mean that Russell or I generally count for 2-4 bugs each. And Russell or Cian count for 2 preds. ;P
We were balanced usually on 5:3:1. Except in AvP2, but that game doesn't exist. |

Yes, if you have skilled aliens you can allow for less aliens. But in my experience when you LAN this game up, most new people want to play predator, are told no, so they hop in as an alien. So you end up with a ton of fodder running around on walls completely disoriented. Many of the soldier weapons can create devastating newbies if they button up in a hallway. Auto target minigun and flamethrower come to mind. |
