http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/01/ ... _the_money

Has anyone else read this article? Tom's is saying that Radeon cards are the best performance per buck, at every price level except one. And that one they say Radeon is better, but they are concerned the supply of them may be too low.

I'm surprised this hasn't hit a bigger cord with the news sites. Nvidia has been the de-facto king since the 7000 series.

Remember back when nVidia was tapped for the XBox hardware? They had to play catch-up - same thing here, except it's ATi that was contracted for the XB360 hardware. They're having to play catch-up

Right now the two best cards for the buck is the ATI X1950 Pro and the nVidia 7900GS. The Radeon edges the GeForce out by a hair. Both are just over $100 and can run anything out there. (I've been blasting away in Crysis on my 7900GS)

Apples to Apples, ATI has always looked better, but had lower performance than nVidia. Eventually the performance got so ridiculous that I finally opted for ATI. I'm ok with only 150fps in UT2K4, don't need the extra 75.

Though I'll have to say, the ATI Control Center app that you're forced to keep running all the time is obnoxious. Kind of like QuickTime and iTunesHelper and the Java Update Scheduler.

Seriously though, I still remember T-Bird having 2 identical computers at a LAN one with nVIDIA and one with an ATI. He was showing everyone that ATI had way better colors, while nVIDIA had a higher frame rate, but looked washed out next to an ATI card. And that was like 7-8 years ago. Strange how it is still true.

Yeah - Ati brings the games alive, but when you're online and fps can mean the difference between l33t0r and sux0r, nvidia takes the cake.
