Post subject: Fall 2004 KOTN: Rise of Nations
First Game, Friday Oct 1st. 8PM :Diplomacy Format
Second Game, Friday Nov 12th: 10PM 1on1 Format.

Due to the popularity of RTS's in general and the very different gameplay between Rise of Nations played with many >3 people compared to 1on1, there will be 2 Friday night, KOTN tourneys this semester. Both will contribute to the same ladder. For our tournies, the expansion pack will not be used, though challenges with both will be acceptable.
Ladder movement is possible via challenge games although competitors should be no more than 4 rungs apart. ie: in a 1on1 game, a 1st place playing a 6th place does not count, although, a 4-man game with 1st, 4th, 8th, and 12th placed participants is valid.

Ladder and Challenges
The ladder will be based on rank given within game. Points are distributed as follows:
2p: -1, +1
3p: -1, 0 , +1
4p: -1.5, -0.5, +0.5, +1.5
5p: -2, -1 , 0 , +1, +2
6p: -2.5, -1.5, -0.5, +0.5, +1.5, +2.5
etc...

1on1 Format:
Map Type: Blind Random.
Size: Arena.
Speed: Normal
Everyone will play 3 games of 45 minutes (unless we have an odd number of people, then there will be byes). +2 ladder points will be awarded for each win, -2 will be taken for each loss, and everyone participating until the end gets a bonus of +2.
Opponent selection:
The following method will be used to choose the matchups. The intent is to match up folks of similiar skills, so that we all have fun.
Based on who is participating, the matchups will follow the current ladder standings, top down. #1 position will play #2, #3 will play #4, etc. If #4 isn't in the tourney, then #3 plays #5, or #6 or the next person in line. (people currently not on the RoN ladder are assumed to have 0 ladder points, which would put then around 6th place, currently. At the end of round one, the winners are given 2 points, and the losers subtract 2 points from their ladder standings. The positions are then updated, and the process repeated. The only condition is that no matchups will be repeated. For ex: if #2 beat #1, so that those participants were still in positions #1 and #2. then #1 will play #3, and #2 will play #4. These games will always be decided top down, with the lowest player taking the bye.

Diplomacy Format:
We will attempt to have games of no less than 5 people each, preferably 6-8.
Blind Random
Size of Map fitting the number of people.
Normal Rules.
Speed: Slow
Time Limit Game: 1.5 game hours (2 hours in real life).
Final ladder points multiplied by 2 then offset by +2.

I think you are the only person who likes Slow setting on Rise of Nations, Stick.

Don't force something on the group that they don't want. You will get a back lash or non-participation.

All i got to say is that bandit is gonna get beat down if i have to do it myself. But I'll probably just ally with someone and have them do it.
