I came across some old/new(hell if I know) open source 3D modeling program. I've never took the time to get to know a tool set(to much money) and thought why not?

Blender is pretty awesome. It's the only full featured 3D modeling program that it's 'easy' to write plugins for.
I say 'easy' because it uses Python, which while it's easy to learn and use... after using other languages (*cough* Ruby) Python serves to piss me off. |
