Because nobody ever signs up for the RTS competitions.

There will be 20 people in every competition and only 4 in the RTS.
The only exception EVER was Warcraft 3.
Which brings up the other problem, they almost always run over.

We went with popularity this time, with exceptions for newness.

I think the reason people don't sign up for RTS is the games run long.
I think the games run long because everyone wants to play in one huge match w/o time limits.
I belive Stick prooved last semester you can have RTS tournaments be very fun with one on one and time limited.

I'm dissapointed to see Stick's work go un-used.

Is there anyway I can help or change this? Or should I just shut up and live with it? I would be more than happy to help run one.

We've done them on strict time limits, have been doing them that way since TL5.5.
They run over because everyone takes forever to get started because for some reason someone's comp always craps out at the last minute.
You get a bunch of ppl to sign up and we can put them back in rotation.
Just no competition at this TigerLAN. But TL9 isn't until the fall so we've got time to plan.

Those are the worst rules for Melee I've ever seen in my life. Items are completely ridiculous to even think about allowing, but if you have to, disabling Hearts, Mushroooms, Tomato, Star, Hammer, and other such items that can win a match on their own is completely necessary.

And please tell me you're going to ban the standard stages? The last thing I want to see is someone pick Fox on Hyrule Temple, or Peach on Fourside Sad

What are your victory conditions? 5 stock, 7-10 minutes is standard, but I could see you going down to 4 stock, 5 minutes because of time constraints. Ties on stock count go to the player with the lowest percentage, barring a percentage tie, which is the only way sudden death should be allowed.

I can agree with the no hammer/health items. We never used them in the past, xero is just busy and probably forgot. But if you think these are the worst rules, I could give you some thatll make you shudder.

I think all matches will be played on Final Destination or Kanto Pokemon Stadium, as par past tigerlans.

Last year we did stock 5, that worked out fine. However if we do get in a MAJOR time crunch we will do 2 minute battles, which is what happened at tigerlan 5, atleast I think it was 5. Ties on stock will be settled with a sudden death, again par usual past tigerlans.

Hmm...how about we crank up game speed, set the time to 2 minutes, and do only hammers on highest item speed on Poke Floats? Come on, those matches will be over REALLY fast!

I was thinking more of highest speed, nothing but pokeballs on the highest setting, and playing in Kanto. But your idea works to.

Melee will be all items. Medium dispersal. Maybe low if the freeplay is getting too item heavy. Items are part of the game. In fact I personally think it's quite a boring fighter without them. Level will most likely be Pokemon Stadium as usual.

Hey, since there are places for TigerLan 6 and 7 pictures on the forums, who's taking the ones for TigerLan 8? I know Rebirth would be more than willing if you want her to do it.

The competitions at TigerLAN are not super serious. They are just friendly competitions that last at most an hour and you happen to get some spiffy prizes sometimes for them. TigerLAN is mostly about the freeplay and promoting gaming in the community.

As great as the tournaments were at the last TigerLan, my favorite part of it all was freeplay. No where else could I get people to play me in MvC2 and Street Fighter 3 on dreamcast.

I do want to know what happened to SC2.

Just didn't have room for it at this TigerLAN. Will probably be dropping Melee in the Fall since its just getting too old and isn't a good representation of a 2D fighter. Though means we'll have to find another GC game to use. We try to have 2 PC, 1 XBox, 1 GC, 1 PS2 competition, but sometimes we run over. We'll be reevaluating all of the competitions after this TigerLAN to see what we need to do to make it better for everyone involved and to really promote the freeplay more. Competitions are becoming a headache for everyone so we want to make things better. Though at least we don't have the same problems that we had for Counter-Strike competitions. That was horrible.

In my view, competitions are just extra stuff for TigerLAN. Freeplay is much more fun in some cases, without the pressure of competing against everyone in a tourney.

Well, if we're dropping Smash in the future, how about we go back to the days of Street Fighter 2: Turbo? Or maybe some Marvel vs. Capcom? I've got a copy for PS, and everything unlocked, though I haven't played it in forever.
