Here is a tip. It works well only in large games.
Instead of ageing as soon as you can instead don't age at all.
Doing this allows you to expand your cities and borders quicker than the other players. And the 1st 2-3 ages don't dramatically put you at a disadvantage militarily with defence.
Doing this means you don't need scholors or universites to get the technologies.
Pay attention to the leader of the pack's current age. As soon as he gets 3-4 ages ahead of you. Then rappidly age.
You should be 2-3 ages ahead of everyone else and have a huge power base to operate from.
In case anyone attacks atemtp to fight them off at your borders. As soon as it looks like you might loose a city, begin aging. You will be far enough ahead of them to dominate. |

dont' forget to buy the tech upgrades first to reduce the cost of the others even further.

Rushing is very dangerous in Rise of Nations because it is so very easy to defend.
If you rush do it with at least 12 meely units I have found that is the number that ensures taking down the city.
The other option would be rush to the 1st age where you get siege weapons. Make sure you build a supply wagon. (or if playing T&P expantion go despotism and bring your free general; he acts as a supply wagon)
Build 2 siege weapons lots of archers and a few cheepest horsemen.
If you can get to the capitol before they see you do that. If they see you attack the closest city. |

Something I haven't tried yet but will soon.
For this to work right you need a race with horse archers and Thrones and Patriots.
Horse achers + Despotism general who acts as a supply wagon.
Take a group of them with the general into town and kill peasants. As soon as the bell rings or armies show up leave. Wait a few moments go to another city harrass again.
Just don't get so caught up in harassment that you forget to build, research, expand your land.
This would force them to build a counter army, more towers, and generaly waist time and money defending they could be using to advance and expand. |

i prefer to just keep building and getting land strength upgrades until my land just overtakes yours on its own. |
