Magicka is a game based around a beautiful magic system. They give you a bunch of elements to mix and match. You can add up to 5 elements total and some of the elements will mix or counter into different elements. Ex. fire + water = air. Fire + water + cold = Water. Water + cold = ice. Ice comes out as ice shards but can be made to freeze enemies by making them wet then freezing them with a cold element spell.
Magicka also has some things you can do besides magic. Lucky found that the Highlander's Exotic Blade + the Warmage's staff made an awesome combo for the mage that prefers to hack and slash. Doc found an M60 and combined it with the staff of emergency teleport. This let him mow people down and teleport away when it got too crazy.
I only have three problems with Magicka -
1. The movement control is point and click. This kind of method makes it impossible to move and shoot. Puzzles that need both at the same time are very difficult to get a handle on. Ex: crossing a lake with frost. you have to move, stop, and frost in order to get across and the ice is slippery. the way to do it is to stop moving and use the slipperyness of the ice to keep you moving forward as you freeze the ice with a 5 frost element spell.
2. Without other people it's impossible. there's just too many things going on for just one person to handle. This means that if you don't have friends playing you need to get impossibly good, or you need to go online and find random people to play with.
3. the game is incredibly buggy. Ex. learned today that the game had still been playing in my processes the entire time. Got caught in a cutscene while my teammates were being attacked once too.
The Good Stuff
1. MAGIC- it has magic the way you always dream of it. mix fire, rock, and arcane then place it into your blade. Next slash is a giant line of fire gushing out of the ground. Use arcane + shield(I know it's not really an element) and use in an area spell to make mines appear in a circle around you. If you want it stronger just add more arcane element. Shield by itself will make a clear yellow shield/sphere/line(depending how you use it) that will bounce magic off of it. Just don't try any magics inside if you put up a sphere. With a choice of 5 of the 8 elements to mess with you have a fuckton of basic spells. There are also advanced magic that require you to use the elements in a specific order and then push the advanced magic button. They do very specific things that can help you and punish your enemies. Grease burns for a long time. Revive is useful when friendly fire is on. Rain makes everything wet(charging lightning element when wet hurts). Haste gives a short boost of speed.
2. Teamwork is rewarded. Beams when connected will increase a beam's power much more than just 2 apart. The problem is the angle of the combined beam is a product of 2 people trying to angle a beam. One person focusing on getting the enemy wet + One guy focusing on freezing the enemy will make every enemy stopped dead in it's tracks.
3. Humor- Where the Fuck do you get an M60 in a fantasy setting. It's one of the rewards for doing very well on an objective in the game. Vlad the not vampire(totally is one) is your mentor and helper throughout the game. Magicka also has great references and jokes throughout the game.
Magicka is $10 on steam and is only a 7/10 from sheer glitchyness. This glitchyness will be cleared up eventually, but until then it is still a wonderful game and should be played by every human on the planet. |

It was hella fun, but yeah...I couldn't stand all the glitching. The map wouldn't track the character corretly sometimes and the like. I think it warrants a 7 though, just for the fun multiplayer, especially since you can do things like lay down healing landmines. Also infinite lives/mana makes it very amusing. |

cause there was no mana you had infinite spells. This gives you infinite revives. Guess what this means when friendly fire is on. |

With the daily patches the game is getting more playable...but it still has a way to go. |

What is this "I"? The game should only be played with other people. By far better that way. |
