Out of curosity.... how is a DDR tourney going to be done? If there are too many rounds, the last one will just be guys flopping around like fish. |

There are two main ways, Technical and Freestyle:
Tech competition will be a 16 man single elimination tournament. The first 16 people to sign up will compete on that day. There will be 3 songs per a round:
Song 1-Player one will pick the song while player two will pick the difficulty
Song 2-Player two will pick the song while player one picks the difficulty
Song 3-Will be chosen by roulette
At the end of the three stages the player with the lower score is eliminated.
# A 'Perfect Attack' type scoring system will be used since this is the most widely accepted one in the DDR community. In this method the winners of each round are determined not by machine score but by the number of Perfects and so forth that they score on the songs.
SCORING METHOD:
Perfects +2
Greats +1
Goods 0
Boos -2
Misses -4
O.K.'s +3
N.G.'s 0
Freestyle = Freestyle! It does not mean simply playing another song like normal (I have seen this way too often from newbies). It's about PERFORMING the song with flair and showmanship, not just hitting the notes. It means having a dance routine set to the song. If you are unsure of what Freestyle means, please look on a site like DDRFreak.com or ddrei.com for info (unfortunately DDRF's helpful resource of tourney winning freestyle video clips was offline last time I checked, but ddrei.com has some freestyle videos under 'Media/Tournament Videos').
Freestyle Rules:
* IF we decide to allow edits in the Freestyle competitions, we may decide to break Freestyle into 2 categories: Freestyle Routines and Freestyle Edits. When we finalize that decision I will post it here.Players pick one song and perform.
* Freestyle will be scored by a panel of three judges who will be announced at a later date.
* The Judges will rate players on a scale of 1-100. If we are able to get 5 judges we will drop the highest and lowest score for each player and add together the remaining 3 scores.
* Judges then add their scores together to decide the winners based on their scores.
Im guessing something more like Technical will be the choice, and these are how people run it at cons, the 16 man limit wont be there at tigerlan. Though Ack, Coyote, and Byron need to get on the ball with these rule sets. |

2 questions:
What kind of pads will be used for the tournament?
Which game will be used?
I will be picking up my version of Supernova the week of TigerLan, so if you want to use the newest and shiniest version, you know who to call. |

Odds are itll be played through Stepmania, and if Toasty and crew show up: Cobalt Fluxs. Other than that I know of many Red Octane 2.0 Igntions could be there. |

Dance Dance Revolution Rules
We will be going with the Technical rules for the game, though there will be some changes. First of all, all songs must be on hardest difficulty. This is to try to ensure that players who join are really interested in the tournament and know what they're doing. If both players can not select a song, then one will be selected randomly. The tournament will be single elimination. As for pads, if there are some specifics that you require to play, bring them. Otherwise we will likely be using Vyse's pads, which I believe are hard tops. There was a request for steel pads as well, my suggestion is to bring them yourself. |
