Yeah... Why do people still play Starcraft?
There have been so many RTSs released that are much improved... yet starcraft still reigns as the most played RTS.
For the same reason people still play Everquest, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Diablo2, TA, NES, SNES, Genesis, PSX, Dreamcast, GameCube, etc. Because it's what they have, what they already know, what they like, and what they're good at. (Obviously there's more to it than that, but I think that sums it up.) |

| Problem with doing that with an RTS is that eventually everyone knows the best build strategies, as well as the damage values and build time of every unit. Starcraft nowadays is about who presses keys faster, not who's better at the game. |

| Yeah. I actually like when games get new balance patches. Everybody bitches about how it sucks but I like the kind of "reset" in memorized pwnage. Nobody knows what numbers the units have again, so it's like learning the game all over. |
