Post subject: Internet Connection in TL13?

| This will be my first time to attend a TigerLAN, will everyone have access to the Internet? Or will that be left up to individuals with wireless cards connecting to Auburn's Wireless? |

We might bridge in basic Internet (web surfing only) but we might not. Unless there is a dire need we will not be bridging in Internet via the campus VPN connection, since it would require one person to trust everyone at the LAN with their university account.
So, if you have a wireless card you can connect to Tsunami, which is Auburn's open wireless and get basic Internet. If you have an AU OIT login you can VPN into the full Auburn network and have AIM, Steam, XFire, Ventrillo, etc running.
If you don't have a wireless card then you might be able to get basic Internet from the TigerLAN network if we bridge it in. Historically the network itself and/or the web connection get unstable once we bridge it in, never figured out why. Hence all of the "maybe" usage.
I will be bringing my USB wireless card that we can swap around if the net's not stable on via our network and people just need to get to the web (forgot patches or updates, need maps or drivers, etc).
The summary of this is: don't count on having an Internet connection.
*NOTE: TigerLAN will also have a wireless LAN that is bridged to the wired. |
